Nuno S. Themudo earned a Ph.D. in Social Policy and Administration from the London School of Economics, and his dissertation received the European Union’s Praxis XXI Dissertation Award in 2004. He is currently an assistant professor in the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh. His research, which focuses on the intersection between philanthropy, nonprofit sector and international development, has been published in the Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly, World Development, Governance, Brown Journal of World Affairs, Global Civil Society Yearbook, and the Jossey-Bass Handbook on Nonprofit Leadership and Management. His article on Gender and the Nonprofit Sector received the 2010 Outstanding Article in NVSQ Award. His book Nonprofits in Crisis: Economic Development, Risk and the Philanthropic Kuznets Curve is forthcoming at Indiana University Press. He has also written reports for Amnesty International, the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers, The World Bank, and the Forbes Funds. Nuno has served on the Editorial Boards of Millennium Journal of International Relations and the Global Civil Society Yearbook and he currently advises the boards of several nonprofits in Latin America. Nuno has recently been elected Secretary of the Board of ARNOVA (Association of Researchers in Nonprofit Organization and Voluntary Action.
